Kingspan Kooltherm K17 Insulated Plasterboard part of a ground-breaking new social housing project
Engineers Powell Fenwick designed a heat recovery system, using the Kingspan KoolDuct System and woven air permeable fabric duct to maintain a comfortable indoor environment within the complex. The air-to-air heat exchanger preheats incoming cool supply air which is warmed with the outgoing exhaust air. The energy efficiency of the complex is further enhanced by the ability of the Kingspan KoolDuct System to reduce air leakage by up to 80%, compared to conventional sheet metal ductwork.
The high relative humidity of a pool environment can create issues for traditional mineral fibre insulants which have minimal long term resistance to moisture. Whereas Kingspan KoolDuct panels have a 90% (or greater) closed cell structure, are non–wicking and offer a high level of resistance to moisture. Providing superior long term performance, the light weight panels are also odourless and resistant to fungal and mould growth. The fibre-free nature of Kingspan KoolDuct ductwork also means that indoor air quality is not compromised.
Kingspan KoolDuct rigid thermoset insulation panels have the lowest thermal conductivity of any commonly available insulation material, allowing the thinnest possible insulation to achieve the required thermal performance.
