Kooltherm Pipe Insulation
Thin and efficient high performance pipe insulation
Situated just off the M5 in picturesque Tewkesbury, the Cotswolds Designer Outlet provides a new destination shopping venue for the region, featuring a range of major brands and food outlets. To help limit the energy demand of the outlet stores, Kingspan Kooltherm Pipe Insulation was installed on the internal pipework and Kingspan Therma Duct Insulation was installed on the external ductwork.
The new designer outlet from Robert Hitchins Ltd has been delivered by Bouygues UK and provides space for 56 stores, along with cafes and restaurants. Roberts Limbrick developed the outlet design, integrating local materials and design elements to provide a fresh take on the familiar outlet vernacular.
Work on mechanical services within the units was predominantly handled directly by the store occupants. The brand occupying one of the anchor stores is committed to reducing its scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 compared with a baseline year of 2017. To help limit energy demand from the HVAC systems, Freeman Thermal Limited fitted Kooltherm Pipe Insulation on all LTHW pipework and Therma Duct Insulation on roof-top ducting.
Kooltherm Pipe Insulation is one of the thinnest and most thermally efficient products commonly available for the insulation of pipework and can be used with pipes manufactured in a wide range of materials. Freeman Thermal Limited fitted 25 mm of the pipe insulation across all LTHW pipework within the building.
Alongside its excellent thermal performance, certain thicknesses and sizes of Kooltherm Pipe Insulation are also available, on request, with FM Approval to FM Approval Class 4924.
Freeman Thermal Limited also installed a 45 mm thickness of Therma Duct Insulation on all external ductwork, primarily located on the building roof. The insulation provides a high-performance solution in these external applications, with a thermal conductivity of 0.023 W/mK at 10°C mean. The boards are suitable for use on rectangular, circular and flat oval ductwork within the temperature range of - 20°C to + 80°C. The lightweight boards were cut and fitted around the rectangular ductwork before being finished with a grey ProClad weatherproof cladding.
Shane Freeman, Director of Freeman Thermal Limited, discussed the installation:
“Insulating the roof-top ductwork was a key technical aspect of the project. Our expert team are experienced in tackling these installations and we have found that Kingspan Therma Duct offers a rigid and reliable external solution to which we can easily apply the weatherproof cladding.”
