Node Cowork
Discover how Kingspan insulation boards helped a new cowork space to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’
Carmarthenshire County Council appointed Bouygues UK to deliver Zone 1 of the Pentre Awel scheme which is expected to create over 1,800 jobs by 2032. This innovative, multi-million-pound development, one of nine projects being developed under the Swansea Bay City Deal, has been separated into four zoned phases with the first expected to be completed in autumn 2024. At the core of the first phase is a health and wellbeing hub which houses the leisure facilities, clinical delivery services and education and business development hubs.
One of the key design drivers on the project was reducing the embodied and operational energy, and minimising whole life impact. To meet this requirement, Bouygues UK implemented a range of measures during construction to reduce carbon emissions, waste, and energy. It also led to the specification of a highly insulated building envelope including the installation of Kingspan GreenGuard GG300 on ground floors across the core building.
Delivering a thermal conductivity of 0.033 W/mK and allowing the project team to meet the U-value target, Kingspan GreenGuard GG300 (XPS) boards also offer achieve a compressive stress of 300 kPa when tested to EN 826: 2013. This ensures they’re more than able to handle the significant daily foot traffic expected once the hub opens.
This excellent compressive performance means that the boards are suitable for a wide range of flooring applications including those exposed to loads from vehicles, such as car park decks and heavy-duty commercial, industrial, and cold store flooring applications.
The boards, produced at Kingspan Insulation’s Selby manufacturing facility in North Yorkshire, are manufactured under a management system certified to ISO 9001: 2015 (Quality Management Systems), ISO 14001: 2015 (Environmental Management Systems), ISO 45001: 2018 (Occupational Health and Safety Management), ISO 50001: 2018 (Energy Management Systems) and ISO 37301:2021 (Compliance Management Systems).
