What is Planet Passionate?
At Kingspan, our mission is “To accelerate the transition to a net zero emissions built environment, with people and planet at its heart.” This mission is driven by our global environmental sustainability programme which sets ambitious targets across four key focus areas: Carbon, Energy, Circularity and Water.
Through this programme, we aim to address three major global challenges: climate change, circularity and protection of the natural world.
We believe that advanced materials, building systems, and digital technologies are crucial in addressing these global challenges, and we are committed to playing our part. By partnering with industry and leveraging our innovation strategy, we aim to support and accelerate the transition to a resource efficient future, powered by renewable energy.
Planet Passionate in Kingspan Insulation
The built environment accounts for 37% of global energy-related greenhouse gas emissions and insulation is one of the most powerful tools available to reduce that figure. We are working hard to decarbonise our own operations, and to help our customers do the same.
Our Four Focus Areas
Carbon & Energy
Reducing energy consumption, using energy more efficiently and switching to renewable energy sources, remain the cornerstones of our approach.
At our Askeaton, Ireland manufacturing facility, two significant milestones were achieved as part of Planet Passionate. A hydro-powered turbine was modernised with advanced flow management and design improvements that protect aquatic life, enabling it to generate up to 0.22 GWh of renewable electricity annually. In May 2025, the site also switched from conventional LPG to BioLPG, cutting LPG-related carbon emissions by 1,884 tCO₂e annually.
Across the Kingspan Group, of which Kingspan Insulation is a key part, renewable energy now accounts for 63% of total energy consumption, and 61% of wholly owned sites are equipped with solar PV systems.
The Group has achieved a 70% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions since 2020, a testament to the combined effort of every division, including Kingspan Insulation.
For the 12-month period 30 Nov 2024 to 30 Nov 2025, Insulation Division saved 4,021 tonnes in carbon emissions (tCO2e) through energy savings and efficiency programmes. It is a 13% improvement on previous year.
The Insulation Division has 521 company cars issued to employees. 418 cars, or 80.2% of the fleet, are already ‘zero emission’ cars, well on our way to the 100% aim for 2030.
Circularity
We believe that the materials going into our products should be used as efficiently as possible and we are working towards eliminating waste to landfill from our business operations by 2030.
Our Kingspan Insulation facility in Winterswijk has partnered with Warmotech to recycle insulation production waste that would otherwise go to landfill. The initiative has a landfill diversion potential of 400 tonnes annually, turning manufacturing waste into valuable secondary raw material.
Across the Group, 1.05 million tonnes of recycled and renewable raw materials were used in manufacturing in 2025, roughly equivalent in weight to over half a million cars. Kingspan Insulation contributes to this figure through responsible sourcing and use of both bio-based and recycled content in its product range.
Water
We recognise that water is a finite and precious resource, and we are committed to using it wisely.
Our Kingspan Unidek facility has installed an extensive rainwater harvesting system with an estimated annual harvesting potential of 17.5 million litres, making it one of the largest contributors to the Group's rainwater harvesting capacity.
Across the Kingspan Group, 245 million litres of rainwater have been harvested since 2020, with a target of harvesting 100 million litres annually by 2030. Kingspan Insulation's sites are a significant part of that ambition.
