Internal wall insulation is insulation installed on the inside surface of the exterior walls of your home.
This article will look at the need for internal wall insulation, its benefits, how it is installed, and grants available for internal wall insulation.
Do walls need to be insulated?
Many homes were built before the introduction of cavity walls and so insulating the walls of these existing homes is often tricky. Equally you may have cavity walls but are looking for ways to improve the energy efficiency and comfort of your home even more.
Installing internal wall insulation could be an option for you to make long-term savings and future-proof your home.
What are the benefits of internal wall insulation?
Internal wall insulation offers a thermal insulation solution for properties where cavities cannot be filled, or external wall insulation can't be used (for example if you are unable to change the exterior appearance of your property).
Internal wall insulation retrofit can be undertaken on a room by room basis.
How to install internal wall insulation?
Internal wall insulation does what it says on the tin! Insulated plasterboard like Kooltherm K17 & Kooltherm K18 is fitted to the inner surfaces of your external walls. A vapour layer is then inserted to seal the insulation against air penetration. It's important that you appoint a suitable contractor to not only install the insulation but also to carry out an assessment on whether your property is suitable for an internal wall insulation system.
