Insulating the walls of your house is a long term investment. Whilst it is often easier to install renewable technlogies, like solar panels, on your home, it's important to address the 'building fabric' (the roof, walls and floor) of your home to ensure any technologies can operate as effectively as possible. In this article, we will go through the benefits of insulating your walls and also the insulation options available to you.
Benefits of insulating your walls
- Reduce heat loss
- Save money
- Make your home more energy-efficient and comfortable.
What insulation is available to you?
Whether you are building a new home or improving the efficiency of an older property, there are many options available to you
- Cavity Wall Insulation
- External Wall Insulation
- Internal Wall Insulation
Cavity Wall Insulation
Cavity wall insulation is installed into the cavity of a building, which is the space between the inner and outer wall. Cavity wall insulation traps the warm air in and prevents air from circulating the cavity. By reducing heat loss through the cavity, you could save on your heating bills as well as your home having a better insulating performance.
There are a number of solutions for a cavity wall depending on your project type. We have many Kingspan insulation cavity wall solutions available depending on the level of performance you need.
For refurbishment projects, Ecobead can be pumped into the cavity of the wall. This high performance insulated bead locks in tight in a honeycomb matrix when pumped in with a water-based adhesive. This can all be done in one day with no intrusion into your home.
Take a look at our guide to cavity wall insulation for more information.

Internal wall insulation offers a thermal insulation solution for properties where cavities cannot be filled or external wall insulation cannot be used. Find out more about internal wall insulation.
Our Insulated drylining boards can be fitted to the inner surface of the insulated cavity walls or onto treated timber battens for solid walls. This option can be used on solid, cavity or timber frame walls. The existing finish, if any, is removed taking it back to the bare wall. The boards are then fitted and a plaster skim is applied, followed by the fittings and skirting boards. You will feel the immediate benefits of the insulation as it will reduce heat loss, draughts, and greatly improve airtightness.
External wall insulation can be a great solution for both new and existing homes. Suitable for solid wall, hollow block and cavity wall constructions. It can improve the thermal comfort of your home as well as give it a new look. Learn more about external wall insulation.
For both new builds and retrofit projects, our Kooltherm K5 can be used. External wall insulation essentially wraps round the outside of your property. External insulation is applied with minimal disturbance to the house occupants in the case of retrofit projects, and it will not reduce the space internally. Kooltherm K5 is a component part of a polymer-modified external render system with a variety of colour and texture finishes. The insulation boards are thinner than other commonly used external wall insulants. Using thinner external insulation could allow more daylight into a building (when compared with thicker alternatives) and may reduce the amount of remediation needed to accommodate insulation on the external walls.
We also offer K-Roc External Wall Slab, which is thicker than Kooltherm K5, but has a European Classification reaction to fire rating of A1, which makes it suitable for applications where enhanced fire performance is required.
With so many options available to house owners, not to mention home improvement grants available, it makes perfect sense to invest in the long term efficiency and comfort of your home.
