2024 – A year in review

  • Date Published

It has been a busy year for Kingspan Insulation GB in 2024 with new developments in our product ranges, the continued roll out of our AlphaCore insulation, a wealth of exciting projects and some brilliant fundraising events.

Raising the roof

As part of our commitment to delivering full spectrum insulation solutions, we were pleased to introduce K-Roc Flat Roof Slab 70/039in October. This Euroclass A1 rated rock mineral fibre slab adds another dimension to our roofing offering — helping us to meet project specifications where this reaction to fire rating is requested. The product has a thermal conductivity of 0.039 W/mK and can be fitted with mechanically fixed single-ply waterproofing systems.

Work has also been ongoing to develop our existing product ranges. In August, Kingspan GreenGuard GG300 was confirmed to achieve a new lower declared thermal conductivity of 0.033 W/mK (0.035 W/mK design thermal conductivity for inverted roof applications). This can allow project teams to achieve target U-values with slimmer constructions in specialist applications where insulation boards with high compressive strength are required. In response to feedback from our customers, we also introduced a new 180 mm board thickness — reducing the number of layers of insulation that may be required for certain applications.

Our product development pipeline is continuing apace for 2025 and we’re excited to share some new product announcements in the coming months.

AlphaCore hits the airwaves and award trail

Following its own successful launch in 2023, AlphaCore Pad has been specified on a variety of projects in 2024, helping to overcome challenging façade applications.

In July, our National Façades Manager — Cameron MacBride — ran a LinkedIn Live session discussing the benefits that AlphaCore can bring to potential problem façade applications. With a highly engaged audience, the session was a great success with some really interesting questions around the challenges specifiers and installers face when tackling façade projects.

We were also delighted to see AlphaCore Pad nominated in the ‘Most Innovative Product’ category at the 2024 Façade Awards. The ceremony at the Midland Hotel in Manchester was a great opportunity to celebrate the façade industry. Cameron was also on hand to present the “Sustainable Product of the Year” award to Lester Cladding North West and Muse with Viritopia for Eden, New Bailey.

Reaching new heights for charity

Across the year, our staff have taken part in a range of fundraising activities and events to help raise money for CRASH and Lighthouse Club.

In June, our sales team once again took to the water at Surrey Docks to race against the great and the good of the construction industry in the annual CRASH Construction Industry Dragon Boat Challenge. The team did a brilliant job during the race.

In July, a team of 15 colleagues also took on the National Three Peaks Challenge. This involved climbing the three tallest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales — Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Snowdon - in just 24 hours. After several months of training, the hikers and their brilliant support crews successfully completed the challenge, raising over £2500 for the charities.

Building a better built environment

Our products have been used across projects of all shapes and sizes in 2024, helping specifiers and installers to reach improved levels of fabric performance and energy efficiency.

The Vistry Innovation Centre (VIC) has been created to act as an exemplar of best practice as we move towards “net zero ready” housing. Each room within the VIC explores different themes and approaches including electric heating, water efficiency, sustainable materials and smart technologies.

Kooltherm K118 Insulated Plasterboard was fitted as part of two separate external wall constructions within a room dedicated to exploring how Passivhaus approaches can be practically delivered on site

Hannah Rapson, Group Technical Innovation Co-ordinator at Vistry Group, said:

“The fabric was integral to this room and allowed us to also demonstrate complementary technologies to show an all-round approach to achieving Passivhaus.”

We were also pleased to be able to support the Great Yorkshire Build charity initiative as it helped to deliver a new Rebound Therapy Centre for Brooklands School in Skipton.

The initiative provides much needed facilities to SEND schools across the region with much of the labour and building materials, including the Kooltherm K108 Cavity Board used in the walls of the rebound therapy centre, having been provided free of charge.

Now completed, the centre provides a warm and comfortable space with a number of trampolines, providing an opportunity for fun and therapeutic exercise, which can also help students to develop coordination and relax.
