Cotswolds Designer Outlet

New gateway shopping destination for the Cotswolds

Discover The Potential

Situated just off the M5 in picturesque Tewkesbury, the Cotswolds Designer Outlet provides a new destination shopping venue for the region, featuring a range of major brands and food outlets. To limit the energy demand of the outlet stores, Kooltherm K107 Pitched Roof Board has been installed on all pitched roof areas.

The new designer outlet from Robert Hitchins Ltd has been delivered by Bouygues UK and provides space for 56 stores, along with cafes and restaurants. Roberts Limbrick developed the outlet design, integrating local materials and design elements to provide a fresh take on the familiar outlet vernacular.

To meet the energy performance requirements under Part L of the Building Regulations, the project team developed the design in line with the energy hierarchy, focusing first on reducing demand by achieving low U-values and G-values, as well as limiting solar gains.

To support this approach, Kooltherm K107 Pitched Roof Board was specified for the pitched roof elements of units across the development.

The roofs of the Cotswolds Designer Outlet

The outlet units feature a mix of pitched and flat roofs across the development. The roofs were specified with a slate finish to complement the surrounding architecture and have all been insulated with Kooltherm K107.

With a thermal conductivity of 0.019 W/mK, the product provides one of the thinnest commonly used solutions for insulating pitched roofs. This performance allowed the project team to achieve the target U-value of 0.16 W/m2K with two 60 mm layers of K107 boards fitted within the roof construction. The board’s low emissivity foil facing should also help to reduce radiant heat losses through the roof during cooler months whilst limiting heat gains and demand on cooling systems during the summer.

The lightweight boards supported easy manual handling on site and could be simply cut and installed with standard hand tools. The rigidity of the insulation also means that the boards are not susceptible to sagging over time, eliminating the need for nets or other supports to retain the insulation in place.

K107 boards produced at our Pembridge manufacturing facility are certified ‘Good’ to BES 6001 (Framework Standard for the Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products). BIM objects for Kingspan Kooltherm K107 can also be downloaded here.
