House-within-a-house
1950s house within a Victorian conservation zone has been cocooned in roof, floor & wall insulation
Salford housing association Salix Homes worked alongside contractors Galliford Try Partnerships to regenerate the estate. As part of the project, 160 two, three and four-bedroom homes were built, replacing 146 properties that were being demolished due to historic structural issues. Phase One involved the construction of 22 new houses designed to provide residents with contemporary and functional homes.
Particular attention to detailing ensured that the specification achieved good thermal performance and minimized thermal bridging, helping to make the homes more economical to keep warm, even in the colder months. Kingspan’s comprehensive technical guidance on standard details provides clear details for a variety of wall junctions, including sills and jambs.
"Everyone deserves the opportunity to live in modern, comfortable homes they can afford. At a time when social and affordable housing is in such short supply, we are delighted that this development will bring new homes to people on the housing waiting list and provide them with a fantastic place to live".
