Kooltherm K10 Soffit Board
Premium high R-value insulation product for use in soffit applications
Located along the Hudson River in West New York, New Jersey, just minutes from Manhattan, the Green House on 56th Street is a “boutique” multifamily complex designed with sustainability in mind. Opened in early 2019, the
20-unit building features units ranging from 856 to 1,368 square feet and is within walking distance of many of West New York’s shopping and dining venues. The Green House was designed by CPA Architecture and constructed by 56th Street Inc. using cutting-edge green building technology.
To increase the Green House’s thermal performance and minimize heating and cooling costs for tenants, a multitude of high-performance products provided by Allied Metal were used. Kingspan Kooltherm® K15 Rainscreen Board and Kingspan Kooltherm® K10 Soffit Board lent a hand in helping the complex achieve exemplary thermal resistance values.
7,800 square feet of Kingspan Kooltherm® K10 Soffit Board was used to improve the private parking garage’s thermal performance. Kingspan Kooltherm® K10 Soffit Board is a premium performance insulation product used for structural ceilings. It has a fiber–free rigid thermoset phenolic core with a glass tissue-based facing on its front surface and low emissivity composite foil on its reverse surface. The product achieves an R-value higher than any commonly used insulation. It resists both moisture and water vapor ingress and is easy to handle and install. Kingspan Kooltherm® K10 Soffit Board will provide the structure with long-term, reliable thermal performance for its lifetime.
To create a layer of continuous insulation that could achieve high thermal efficiency, 22,000 square feet of Kingspan Kooltherm® K15 Rainscreen Board was used. Kingspan Kooltherm® K15 Rainscreen Board is a premium performance insulation, suitable for use in rainscreen cladding systems. It has a fiber–free rigid thermoset phenolic insulation core which is faced on both sides with a low emissivity composite foil facing. It is resistant to the passage of water vapor, unaffected by air infiltration, and provides superior fire performance compared to other common foam plastic insulations.
"Kingspan’s Kooltherm was able to provide a cleaner look and smoother finish for the soffit as opposed to what you normally see with spray foam insulation."
Kingspan Kooltherm® K15 Rainscreen Board’s superior thermal performance was able to provide the building with an additional high R-value which helped the building’s entire wall assembly to achieve an R-value of R-35.
“Kingspan’s Kooltherm was able to provide a cleaner look and smoother finish for the soffit as opposed to what you normally see with spray foam insulation,” said Alex Somohano, President of Waterproofing and Building Solutions. “The Green House’s owner and general contractor were extremely happy with Kooltherm’s ease of installation and overall performance.”
